What types of materials are you most interested in? What is your budget? Are there any specific or unique concerns that you have about your mattress? If you will be sharing the bed with someone else who is not going to be visiting the store with you? If so, what type of mattress do they prefer?
Try Things Out
Once you arrive at the mattress store, it’s time to try things out! While it’s a good idea to try out the sleep position that you use the most, you should also make sure to turn in every direction. Are different positions comfortable? When you are lying on the mattress, pay attention to where your body is relaxed and where it feels like there is the most pressure. For example, side sleepers who use firm mattresses can feel excess pressure on their hips that leads to discomfort. As a result, side sleepers often do best on contoured or softer mattresses that have some give.
