How Do Mattresses Impact Sleep Temperature?

Mattresses

Mattresses have a bigger impact on sleeping temperatures than you may even realize.

It’s just about impossible to get a good night of sleep in a bed that’s either too hot or too cold. Our mattresses can have a huge impact on whether or not we sleep well and could leave you tossing and turning. If you’re having problems sleeping at night due to temperature, there are a few things you can do and that includes taking a look at different mattresses. Read on below to find out more about how mattresses can impact your sleep temperature!

Why Do People Sleep Hot or Cold?

There are a number of factors that can impact whether or not a bed is too hot or too cold. This can include room temperature, individual metabolism, personal preference, and even mattress composition. Whether or not your mattress is breathable and retains heat can have big impacts on whether or not you’re sleeping at the right temperature. Every mattress on the market varies in terms of breathability, so you’ll want to shop around and get as much good info as you can.

How Bed Composition Matters

While personal factors and room temperature may be the biggest reasons you’re unsatisfied with your sleep temperatures, mattresses are one of the factors you have the most control over. All bad types have different materials and properties so it’s critical to be aware when choosing a new bed.

Latex Mattresses

Latex mattresses rarely run hot, but it is possible. Beds with natural latex tend to sleep cooler whereas synthetic latex is warmer, especially those with thick layers of regular foam on top which will sleep the warmest of all latex mattresses. Latex beds with pinholes will also perform better than others.

Memory Foam Mattresses

Memory foam mattresses tend to sleep hot overall, but that of course depends on the brand and model. High-density beds tend to sleep warmer. Gel infused memory foam feels cooler initially, especially thoat that have gel close to the surface.

Innerspring or Coils

Spring mattresses are defined by their core made of metal coils, which is then topped with foam and fiber. Coil beds with thick comfort layers and thick memory foam layers will tend to sleep much warmer.
