Sleep Tips: How to Fall Asleep Easily

How you are going to fall asleep at night isn’t something you should have to worry about.

How you are going to fall asleep isn’t a question you should have to research or even worry about. Besides, worrying about how to make yourself sleep will prevent it from happening even more because of that one word, worry. We’ve all been there before; we notice we can’t go to sleep like we used to. We lay our heads on our pillow, close our eyes, and next thing you know, we can’t get comfortable or stop thinking, then we can’t fall asleep. There’s plenty of reasons for this to happen, so here are some of the best ways to fall asleep faster to get you back to catching some much needed zzz’s.

Stop Napping

It doesn’t get simpler than this. But, taking naps = trouble passing out that night. If you take naps, try to stop the habit or at least cut back. If you love your naps too much, try to cut them down to only 20 minutes, because any more than that and you might find yourself staring at the ceiling again that night.

Exercise

It’s a known fact that exercising helps all kinds of health-related things, including sleep-related ones such as sleep apnea and insomnia. Exercise reduces stress, which reduces that keyword worry that was mentioned before. Exercise tells your body that it has to recharge, therefore making you tired when it comes time for bed. Just make sure not to exercise three or fewer hours before you call it a night.

Wake Up At the Same Time

Is your schedule always out of whack every morning or on the weekends? As you could probably imagine, getting up at different times every morning could affect how you go to sleep. Try to wake up every day at least within 30 minutes of your usual wake-up time. The same goes for your bedtime. Keep it within 30 minutes. If your bedtime is usually 10 pm, go to sleep between 9:45 and 10:15. Also, make sure to avoid hitting the snooze button on your phone or clock. Studies show that this can do more harm than good.

Limit Your TV and Computer Use

One last sleep tip – try not to watch television as much or fiddle around on your tablet/laptop or phone in the evening. Research shows that brightness from screens can cause you to stay alert deep into the night. You are also working and stimulating your brain when using these devices when it should be winding down.
